Our body is what we eat. The same is true when it comes to our teeth. The health of our teeth depends upon what we eat, how we take care of our teeth. When proper care of teeth is not taken then there could be many problems that one can face like tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, toothache, Halitosis, cavities etc. These problems can happen to anyone, anytime.

Oral hygiene is one best way to keep teeth clean and stay away from different teeth problems. Brushing, flossing daily, regular dental check up, eating properly can help to prevent dental problems.

A tooth is basically made up of four main parts: outside is the protective layer of enamel – the hardest substance of body. Below that is dentin a bone like substance the largest part of tooth. Underneath that comes a soft center called pulp, and the house of all blood vessels and nerve endings.

Whole provide vitamins and iron, which helps to keep the teeth healthy. Whole Grain also has magnesium an important ingredients for bone and teeth. Coarse grain like brown rice, bran, whole grain cereal and pasta are rich source of vitamin B, fiber and iron. These are fibrous carbohydrates that helps to fight tooth cavities.

3. Calcium Rich Food

Calcium rich food helps to replace the essential minerals that are lost otherwise. Sea food like prawn, oysters and clamp contain calcium that helps to strengthen the teeth. Cheese help to stimulate saliva, its calcium helps to replace the mineral leached from teeth. Milk, yogurt and other similar products provide calcium and phosphates. Milk also provides Vitamin D useful for the body to use calcium.

Sugar free gums are also helpful for the teeth. They prevent harmful bacteria in plaque from metabolizing sugar by creating harmful acids that degrade tooth enamel. It controls the bacteria which lead to tooth decay and gums. They stimulate saliva production and help to scrub the teeth.

Gargling with sesame oil is a popular method used in ayurvedic medicine known as “oil pulling”. This method is as useful as washing with chlorhexidine mouthwash which reduces plaque, gingival scores and the total bacterial count.

Mint leaves works as disinfectant. Chewing mint leaves can help to protect the teeth after meals.

9. Nuts

Nuts provides a large amount of vitamins and minerals. Raisin contains flavinoids and photophenols which help to control mouth bacteria. Almonds which containshigh levels of calcium, helps both teeth and gums. Walnuts contain fiber, folic acid, iron, thiamine, magnesium, iron, niacin, vitamin E, vitamin B6, potassium and zinc. Peanuts contain calcium and Vitamin D which is required for healthy teeth.
